Chef Insurance Requirements
Independent chefs operating through Chez maintain professional liability insurance appropriate to in-home personal chef service.
Default launch minimum. Commercial General Liability with limits of no less than $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate, including Products and Completed Operations coverage. Chez Enterprises Holding Co., Chez, LLC, and their applicable affiliates must be listed as additional insureds where required by the current Chef Agreement or applicable market policy. Pending final legal and insurance-broker review.
Additional coverage a chef may need. Professional Liability (E&O), Commercial Auto or business-use vehicle coverage, Workers' Compensation where the chef employs assistants and law requires it, Umbrella / Excess Liability, Property / Inland Marine for chef-owned equipment, and Cyber / Data coverage where applicable. These are examples only — required coverage varies by business structure, services, insurer, location, and applicable law.
Chef responsibility. The chef is solely responsible for identifying, obtaining, maintaining, renewing, and complying with every license, registration, permit, certification, insurance policy, tax obligation, and regulatory requirement applicable to the chef's business. Chez may request documentation, set platform minimums, and send renewal reminders — Chez does not assume the chef's legal or regulatory obligations, and failure by Chez to detect a missing credential does not excuse the chef's non-compliance.
Verification. Chefs upload a current certificate of insurance and endorsements during onboarding. A certificate of insurance alone is not automatic proof of every requested endorsement. Coverage is re-verified before expiration; expired or canceled coverage prevents new bookings pending review.
Privacy. Insurance documents are stored in restricted admin storage and are not shown publicly. Policy numbers, claim details, and allegations are never used in email subject lines.
