Clear protection for the home and the professional.
Chez requires both households and chefs to take reasonable steps to protect themselves, their property, and the people participating in each service.
Chez provides a technology platform that facilitates introductions, matching, booking administration, communication, and payment processing between households and independent chefs. Chez does not own, operate, supervise, or control the household premises, and does not provide homeowners, renters, property, medical, workers' compensation, or personal liability coverage.
Household Insurance
Households are responsible for maintaining homeowners, renters, personal liability, umbrella, or other insurance appropriate for their residence, property, household members, and guests.
Households should review their policies and confirm that personal-chef services, invited service providers, bodily injury, property damage, fire, water damage, theft, and other relevant risks are covered. Chez does not review or guarantee the scope of a household's insurance policy. Households remain responsible for deductibles, exclusions, policy limits, reporting obligations, and losses not covered by their insurer.
Before the first booking, each household acknowledges:
- Chez does not provide insurance for my home or personal property.
- I am responsible for maintaining appropriate homeowners, renters, personal liability, umbrella, or other applicable insurance.
- My policy may contain exclusions, deductibles, limits, or reporting deadlines.
- I agree to notify my insurer promptly when a potentially covered incident occurs.
Chef Insurance
Every chef must maintain insurance appropriate to the services offered through Chez and to the jurisdictions in which the chef operates. Chez may establish platform minimums, but those minimums do not replace the chef's responsibility to obtain all coverage reasonably appropriate for the chef's business.
Claims involving bodily injury, slips and falls, property damage, or other third-party liability arising from business operations.
Claims involving food served, alleged foodborne illness, allergic reactions, or injuries alleged to result from completed culinary services.
Claims alleging professional mistakes, omissions, or failures in delivering agreed services where available and appropriate.
Travel, grocery transportation, or other business use that may not be covered under a personal auto policy.
Required when the chef employs assistants or workers and applicable law requires coverage.
Additional limits above the chef's primary liability policies.
Chef-owned knives, equipment, tools, technology, or supplies used while traveling or working in households.
Relevant where a chef independently stores customer data, payment information, or sensitive household information outside Chez.
These examples are educational only. Required and appropriate coverage varies by business structure, services, insurer, location, and applicable law. Chefs should consult a qualified insurance professional.
Default launch requirement, pending final legal and insurance review: Commercial General Liability with limits of no less than $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate, including Products and Completed Operations coverage. Chez Enterprises Holding Co., Chez, LLC, and their applicable affiliates must be listed as additional insureds where required by the current Chef Agreement or applicable market policy. Chez administrators may configure market-specific and service-category variations.
Claim Routing
When an incident may involve bodily injury, property damage, foodborne illness, allergic reaction, theft, or another potentially insured loss, the parties must promptly notify Chez and the insurers that may provide coverage.
Ordinary claims relating to the home, household property, household conditions, guests, pets, or premises should be reported to the household's homeowners, renters, umbrella, or other applicable insurer.
Ordinary claims arising from a chef's culinary services, business operations, food preparation, professional conduct, equipment, assistants, or alleged negligence should be reported to the chef's applicable commercial insurer.
A single incident may require notice to more than one insurer. Chez may provide records, booking information, or reasonable administrative cooperation, but Chez does not determine coverage, accept liability, adjust claims, or promise that an insurer will pay. Nothing in this section prevents a party from asserting rights that cannot legally be waived.
Claim Notice Requirements
Households and chefs are asked to:
- Report the incident to Chez promptly.
- Take reasonable steps to prevent additional harm.
- Seek emergency or medical assistance when necessary.
- Preserve photographs, messages, receipts, damaged property, and other relevant evidence.
- Notify the applicable insurer as soon as reasonably possible.
- Follow all policy notice and cooperation requirements.
- Avoid making admissions on behalf of Chez or another party.
- Not alter, destroy, or conceal relevant evidence.
Report an incident or potential claim.
We route reports to trust & safety and, where appropriate, help coordinate insurer notification.
